Vladimir Lebedev – Fantasy
This painting depicts a view of a fantasy castle based on works in the fantasy style. Is the central figure an arched bridge over a mountain chasm? Crowned with statues of warriors. The entire stage with the castle, towers and other architecture is built around the bridge. The scene reflects the atmosphere of Gothic novels, made in a rather dark palette using contrasts – the gray-brown tones of the rocks and walls contrast with the reddish-peach shades of the sunset sky. The sky itself is painted with color gradients from warm tones to cold blues. Sunset glare appears on the surfaces of rocks, walls and bridge. The painting is painted in an impressionistic style, with noticeable brushstrokes, and conveys not only a fantastic view of the castle, but also a state of expectation of something. It was as if a squad of soldiers led by a commander on horseback would come out of the gate onto the bridge, or a dragon would suddenly fly over the castle. This state of half-expectation, half-anxiety does not leave you looking at the picture. The painting was made to order and found its place in the apartment of a private owner in Serbia.
