vvswan68 – It’s here, look better
This painting depicts something that is usually invisible in the dark: a black cat. The artist deliberately used a very restrained palette, relying on variations of dark grey, black and faint glints of greenish-blue shades to define the cat’s contours. The effect is almost ghostly or spectral—the cat’s figure seems to emerge from the darkness rather than being completely painted on it. In this way, the artist invites the viewer to strain their eyes and look more closely. When the eyes have fully adjusted to the darkness, it is possible to make out the silhouette of a moving cat, because its fur glows very faintly due to the static electricity on it. This glow is extremely difficult to catch but try it. You will see an invisible part of the cat’s life that will immerse you in a mysterious atmosphere — it crosses the line between the invisible and the visible and reveals itself to you. The author reworked the painting, trying to give it a new sound. So, the darkness has acquired greater depth and velvety texture, now it is all made in oil. And most importantly, after turning off the light, the cat really glows in the dark for a while. This kind of ghostly, faintly noticeable glow adds additional mystique to the work.
