vvswan68 – Rome, Palatinus
Before you there is another example of a small rebellion against convention - a classical scene boldly smeared on a humble pizza box. The brushstrokes are loose yet deliberate, capturing the ruins of ancient Rome in a riot of texture and colours. Marble columns rise defiantly beneath a bright blue sky, while the soft, earthy tones of old brick buildings peek through in the centre. The play of light and shadow gives the ruins depth, inviting the eye to wander down a path where tiny figures stroll, as if lost in time. What makes this work even more delightful is its non-apologetic choice of canvas: the familiar font of the word ‘pizza’ cuts across the scene, playfully reminding us of the intrusion of modern life into antiquity. In the corner, a signature modestly nestles, signifying the artist’s quiet satisfaction with this joyous collision of eras and materials.
