vvswan68 – Pyramides Port-Coton, Belle-Ile-en-Mer (Bretagne)
This painting is a seascape with the rocky coastline of Belle-Île Island and bright blue waters where the rocks meet the crashing waves. The landscape depicts the place where Claude Monet painted his famous work, The Pyramids of Port Cotton, Stormy Sea’, the artist presented a view of the coast from the cliff where Monet worked. The painting is painted in the impasto technique, where thick strokes of paint create a sense of depth and movement, especially evident in the water. The ocean is painted in bright shades of dark blue with white flecks representing the foam created by the waves hitting the rocks. Several jagged cliffs rise above the sea, and detailed shading and highlights emphasise their rough, rugged surfaces. The horizon line is positioned quite high, with a gentle transition to a light sky, presenting a view of the sea from above, from a high shore. Overall, this work conveys a dramatic coastal landscape, emphasising the natural textures of the rocks and water in an almost impressionistic style. The painting is one of a series, a triptych, showing the beauty of Belle-Île. To give the impression of a connected subject, all three paintings are in the same colour scheme and style, as well as with the same horizon level.
