A sketch of an alley in Abramtsevo Park on a sunny day in May. The day is drawing to a close, and the sunlight creates a series of shadows and highlights that run almost parallel to one another and perpendicular to the path. The result is a succession of stripes of varying colors and lighting. At the same time, the tree trunks have created their own striped pattern against the backdrop of the fresh May greenery. And to top it off, the sun’s rays catch the leaves that are tilted at a certain angle through the still-translucent foliage. And they create a new series of stripes. Instead of depicting this beautiful alley, the artist became captivated by this interplay of geometric forms and decided to present the scene as a combination of stripes.
