The wet road and pavements reflect the surroundings in soft blurs. To the left is a small public garden with tall lime trees; their green foliage is painted in textured, layered strokes. The buildings behind them are a warm yellow colour, while the buildings on the right side of the street are dark red and clearer, giving the composition a pleasing contrast and rhythm. A girl is walking along the pavement in the centre of the painting, taking her time and enjoying the moment. Her movements are light and graceful, and her silhouette seems to merge with the wet surface - this creates a subtle sense of remoteness and thoughtfulness. Other figures linger on the pavements, quiet and unobtrusive, adding life without disturbing the stillness.
