This painting depicts a very quiet, picturesque scene deep in France’s Occitanie region, within the Gorges du Tarn. It places the viewer at the bottom of the gorge and presents a view of a bridge arching across the Tarn River. The bridge looks like a giant bow joining the cliffs on either side of the river. On the right, a pillar-like rock formation looms over the road and the entrance to the bridge. It remains like an old guard, watching the way and ensuring the peace in this corner of France. The cliffs on the right are higher and sheer, like a wall. On the left, where the bridge leads, there is an area where a small village has been situated for centuries. It is hidden behind the foliage of the trees on the left, and only a very blurry reflection of a building in the river water under the bridge hints at its presence. The slopes of the cliffs are covered with green vegetation, which brings serenity and calm to the scene. The river water, smooth and reflective, adds even more relaxation and comfort to the composition. The sun provides the final strokes with its bright spots of light on the surfaces of the rocks and the river water. In the foreground, there is a flat area on the bank, a kind of beach, where a girl is standing and looking at the river, where somebody is sailing a canoe. The whole image is an emotional reflection of the author’s mood – full of peace and contemplation. He enjoys seeing how the water has transformed this place over a long time, creating such a deep gorge. And now, the Tarn brings its waters quietly, presenting beautiful pictures in the reflections of its surroundings. The painting can be hung on the wall without a frame since the image goes to the ends.
